Vegetative Plantings
The Vermilion Soil and Water Conservation District (VSWCD) in cooperation with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Office of Soil and Water Conservation (OSWC), Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF), the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR), LA Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries, and High School Agriscience/FFA Volunteers held it's annual re-vegetation project May of 2026.
The main objective of this project is to attempt to create new marsh, increase stability, lessen erosion and create habitat for wildlife and provide a seed source for natural regeneration.
With successful re-vegetation projects since 1994, the Vermilion Soil and Water Conservation District is already planning in partnership with NRCS, OSWC, LDAF and LDNR for the next successful project in 2027.

Shout out to 2026 Volunteers who assited in our project in Bob Lake. Erath, Abbeville, Kaplan and North Vermilion High School Agricscience/FFA students and teachers did an awesome job and planted 4,600 plugs of bulwhip for 23,000 linear feet of protection, restabilization and regeneration.
